Murata Shuko

1423-1502. He was a priest at Shomyo-ji temple in Nara. Later, he studied Zen under Ikkyu Sojun and was given his inkashomei (proof of achievement of enlightenment) in the form of the 'Engo no bokuseki'. He took chanoyu as a 'way' of spiritual enlightenment and is said to be the founder of wabi-cha.
