Daitoku-ji temple

The head temple of the Rinzai sectfs Daitoku-ji school of Zen Buddhism, located in Murasakino in Kita ku, Kyoto. It was built at the end of the Kamakura period, and its founder was Daito Kokushi (Shuho Myocho). In Tensho 17 (1589), Rikyu Koji had the main gate repaired. A wooden statue of Rikyu is enshrined in this 'Kinmokaku' gate.
