Tai-an

The one tea house remaining that is certainly Rikyu's. A national treasure. It is located in Myoki-an in Kyoto prefecture's Oyamazaki-cho. It is a two mat room in which the alcove has plastering at the interior angles between the ceiling and walls, hiding the pillars to give a rounded effect (murodoko). The walls are plastered with clay and it has a nijiriguchi (crawl-through entrance). It is said that it was built in Tensho 10 (1582).
