Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region
The Northern California Region was founded in 1970. We are incorporated as a not-for-profit, public benefit, educational corporation, and, as such, donations are tax-deductible, to the extent allowed by law.

Events and Activities
Public Events for 2015

January 11

The first tea event of the New Year, Hatsugama Chakai (First kettle), was held and the members celebrated New Year’s with a cup of thick tea. After exchanging New Year’s greeting, a boxed lunch was served and a raffle was held.



March 15

Rikyu-ki, memorial tea for Sen-no-Rikyu, was held at Kansoan in the Nichibeikai building in San Francisco.



April 11

As a part of the 48th annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, Omotesenke Domonkai demonstrated the “Way of Tea.” The event was open to general public at 1830 Sutter St., San Francisco. Four sessions were held.



June 14

The “Early Summer Tea” event was organized at Kansoan and the public was invited. In the same building, bazaar sale was held.



July 31 ~
August 2

Workshop at Kansoan and Hotel Nikko



August 9

Participating in the J-POP Summit with other Japanese companies to introduce tea drinking and the traditional culture of Chanoyu.



September 20

Omotesenke Domonkai will be participating in the 15th annual Hakone Chakai serving thick tea. See www.hakone.com/main.html for further information.

November 8

“Robiraki Chakai” will be held at Kansoan, and the general public is invited.



Public Events for 2015
In addition to the activities listed above, there are many public and private events hosted by the members of our organization. We exist, in part, to support their endeavors to extend the practice of the Omotesenke Way of Tea but only official activities can be listed here.


Becoming a member of the Northern California Region
If you wish to learn the Omotesenke way of tea, we will be happy to help you find a teacher. If you are already an Omotesenke student, you can join the Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region through one of our teachers, or by contacting our office.
