Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region
The Northern California Region was founded in 1970. We are incorporated as a not-for-profit, public benefit, educational corporation, and, as such, donations are tax-deductible, to the extent allowed by law.

Events and Activities
Public Events for 2016-2017


January 10

The first tea event of the New Year, Hatsugama Chakai (First kettle) was held and the members celebrated New Year with a cup of thick tea. After exchanging New Year’s greetings, a box of lunch was served as well as raffles were carried out.



February 28

For kyojyu-sha and shikaku-sha, togerther held a study group session to learn from each others.



March 20

Rikyu-ki, memorial tea for Sen-no-Rikyu, will be held at Kansoan in Nichibeikai building in San Francisco.



April 10

As a part of the 49th annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, Omotesenke Domonkai will be demonstrating the “Way of Tea.” The event is Open to general public. Address: 1830 Sutter St., San Francisco. Four session will be held.



June 12

The “Early Summer Tea” event will be organized at Kansoan and the public will be invited. In the same building, bazaar sale will be held.



September 11

Tennen-ki, memorial tea for Joshinsai, will be held at Kansoan in Nichibeikai building in San Francisco.



October 30

Omotesenke Domonkai will be participating in the 16th annual Hakone Chakai serving thin and thick tea. Interested parties should consult with thewebsite with the website www.hakone.com/main.html for further information.

November 13

“Robiraki Chakai” will be held at the Nichibeikai tea room, Kansoan, and the general public is invited.



Junuary 8

“Hatsugama-chakai” will be held at the Nichibeikai tea room, Kansoan in San Francisco.



March 19

Rikyu-ki, memorial tea for Sen-no-Rikyu, will be held at Kansoan in Nichibeikai building in San Francisco.



Public Events for 2016
In addition to the activities listed above, there are many public and private events hosted by the members of our organization. We exist, in part, to support their endeavors to extend the practice of the Omotesenke Way of Tea but only official activities can be listed here.


Becoming a member of the Northern California Region
If you wish to learn the Omotesenke way of tea, we will be happy to help you find a teacher. If you are already an Omotesenke student, you can join the Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region through one of our teachers, or by contacting our office.

Please understand that the office staff can only answer administrative questions. Questions about tea procedures etc. should be directed to your teacher. Questions about matters involving the head office, grand master, or anything else about Omotesenke should be directed to the head office in Kyoto.
