Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region
The Northern California Region was founded in 1970. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2010 with a gathering attended by the heir to the Omotesenke tradition. We are incorporated as a not for profit public benefit educational corporation and as such donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Public Events for 2014

March 8, 2014 Omotesenke way of tea demonstrations at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.



March 9, 2014 Lecture by Prof.Takashige Ubukata on "Anecdotes of Sen no Rikyu and Historical Background of Chanoyu Culture" in New Ballroom, 3rd floor, Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, hosted by Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region, endorsed by Consulate General of Japan in SF and sponsored by Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.



March 12~14, 2014 Tea ceremony classes (lecture and practical training) for students from middle and high schools and universities at Hokka Nichibei Kaikan, hosted by Consulate Gereral of Japan in SF in cooperation with Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region.



April 13, 2014 Omotesenke way of tea demonstrations at Nihonmachi Little Friends in San Francisco, hosted by the Cherry Blossom Festival Committee.



June 29, 2014 Early Summer Chakai & Bazaar at Kansoan and the basement first floor, Hokka Nichibei Kaikan in San Francisco.



September 27, 2014 Omotesenke way of tea demonstrations in Muchuan at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, hosted by the San Francisco Asian Art Museum and co-sponsored by Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region.



October 26, 2014 Hakone Chakai at the Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, hosted by the Hakone Foundation and co-sponsored by Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region.



November 9, 2014 Robiraki Chakai hosted by Omotesenke Domonkai Northern California Region(Tea utensils purchase, etc.)



Other Events
In addition to the activities listed above, there are many public and private events hosted by the members of our organization. We exist in part to support their endeavors to extend the practice of the Omotesenke Way of Tea but only official activities can be listed here.

About becoming a member of the Northern California Region
If you wish to learn the Omotesenke way of tea, we will be happy to help you find a teacher. If you are already an Omotesenke student, you can join the Northern California Region of Omotesenke Domonkai through one of our teachers or by contacting our office.

Please address your inquiries introduction to a place to practice Tea, applications to events, and membership in the Northern California Region to the following:
Please understand that the office staff can only answer administrative questions. Questions about tea procedures etc. should be directed to your teacher. Questions about matters involving the head office, grand master, or anything else about Omotesenke should be directed to the head office in Kyoto.
